How I Use Claude AI to Plan and Get Things Done

Hi All!

As a NAV/D365BC consultant, my days are a mix of client calls, fit-gap analysis, writing functional specs, debugging AL code, and preparing training material — sometimes all on the same day. Sound familiar?

A few months ago, I started using Claude AI as a productivity tool, and honestly, it's changed how I work.

Here's how I actually use it:

1. Drafting Functional Specs Faster

I give Claude a rough idea like "purchase order approval workflow with three levels" and ask it to draft a functional spec outline. It's not perfect, but it gives me a solid starting point that I then refine with client-specific details. Saves me a good 30–40 minutes per document.

2. Preparing for Client Workshops

Before a discovery session, I ask Claude to generate a list of questions for a specific module say, Warehouse Management or Fixed Assets. It helps me make sure I'm not missing anything obvious, especially for modules I don't work with daily.

3. Understanding Unfamiliar AL Code

Sometimes I inherit code written by someone else. I paste it into Claude and ask it to explain what it does. Instant clarity and no need to trace through 200 lines manually. At times, I also tell it to create basic structures to avoid the boring stuff.

4. Writing Blog Drafts

Yes, including this one! I use Claude to get a first draft going, then rewrite it in my own voice. Great for beating writer's block.

5. Task Planning

When I have a chaotic week ahead, I literally dump my task list into Claude and ask it to help me prioritize. It asks the right questions deadlines, dependencies, effort, and helps me think it through.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind:

Claude is a tool, not a replacement for your expertise. Always review its output especially for technical or client-facing content. It doesn't know your specific client's setup, your project history, or the quirks of their customizations. That domain knowledge is still yours.

But as a thinking partner and productivity booster? Absolutely worth trying.

Give it a shot and let me know how you use AI in your ERP work. I'd love to hear!
