Hi All,
Quality inspections, quarantine, incoming goods checks, these always needed a third-party app or custom workaround in BC. Not anymore!
For me, this is really exiting as I have worked extensively with custom Quality module for a company and to see Microsoft to have it as standard is a treat!
Microsoft released the native Quality Management Module as part of 2025 Release Wave
2 (December 2025). Let’s look at what it does.
What Does It Do?
It allows you to set up inspection plans, trigger quality checks automatically based on
transactions, log test results, and quarantine failing items all inside Business Central, no
add-on needed.
Setup Step:
1. Install the QM extension (pre-installed on SaaS)
2. Search Quality Management Setup, configure triggers and quarantine bins
3. Create inspection templates or use the existing ones provided by microsoft - You can directly create Quality Inspection from the templates.
Note: It is always better to do this as per Item category to reduce manual work.
4. Define Quality Inspection Generative Rules
5. Assign the right permission sets to inspectors and warehouse staff.
Where Can Inspections Be Triggered?
- Purchase receipts (with or without warehouse)
- Production order completions
- In-process / inline production checks
- Inventory adjustments
What Happens on Failure?
- Items can be automatically moved to a quarantine bin, a manager notified, or a purchase return created.
- Full traceability is maintained against the item and transaction.
Quick Tips
- Set up your quarantine bin before go-live as clients always forget this.
- Filter triggers by item to avoid inspections firing on every single receipt.
- For existing environments, install from AppSource as it won’t auto-install.

A long-awaited native feature especially for manufacturing, food, and pharma clients.
Worth a dedicated demo if you are in those sectors.
